The employee-owners at Burns & McDonnell were excited to learn that we earned    the number 20 spot in Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms list.

Ranking sixth in power overall, and in the top 20 in process and industrial, Burns & McDonnell moved up two spots from last year into the top 20.

“We knew we had a solid year in 2010 but you never know how you are doing against your peers until the ENR rankings start coming out, so it’s gratifying to see our expectations confirmed. What the numbers really show is that Burns & McDonnell has been successful in building on its core strength of energy and infrastructure engineering. As a result we’ve consistently moved up the rankings over five years in several categories,” says our own Roger Dick.

The Kansas City Business Journal reported that Kansas City area firms made a strong showing in the annual list including not only Burns & McDonnell, but also our colleagues at Black & Veatch, HNTB, Terracon, TranSystems Corp, CRB, Henderson Engineers, Shafer Kline & Warren, Gould Evans, Sega and GBA.

Kansas City’s engineering community is well known and well respected. The University of Missouri-Kansas City has called Kansas City not only “home and headquarters to engineering giants” but also a “rich environment for engineering education and research.” UMKC estimates Kansas City to be the fourth-largest engineering community and the largest per capita engineering community in the United States. That’s a testament to the wide array of talent in the community.

We are honored by our inclusion on the prestigious Engineering News-Record list and extend our congratulations to our peers for their recognition as well.
