It's no secret that we work hard here at Burns & McDonnell. But we also like to have a good time, too, and we hope you'll enjoy this peek into our lighter side with the newest video promoting our Smart Grid contest.

We can't help but laugh every time we watch it, and we hope it puts a smile on your face, too. Yet the potential power of the Smart Grid is no laughing matter. This ongoing electrical evolution is expected to change the way we consume and monitor energy, and that means big things not only for utility companies but also for the general public.

One of the biggest obstacles to the Smart Grid is consumer understanding. What is it? What will it do for me? And why should I use it? These are all vital questions that need to be answered for consumers to truly support the Smart Grid. And that's where you come in.

Enter our contest and answer “Why is the Smart Grid good for me?” Your response should be in a video uploaded to YouTube, and we'll be giving away a $5,000 prize to the winning team. When you're making your video, consider these questions, among others:

  • What should the Smart Grid do?
  • Should it do more than just save consumers money?
  • How should consumers interact with the Smart Grid?
  • How will the Smart Grid appeal to consumers?

Full contest details are available on our website. Entries will be accepted from late July until November 30, 2011. Start channeling your inner Andy Samberg or Martin Scorsese, whoever your video idol may be, and help us transform how people think about the Smart Grid.
