Nearly 50,000 people from around the world will gather in Chicago October 28-31 for PACK EXPO International 2012, the world’s largest food packaging and processing event. The tradeshow and conference includes a variety of workshops, seminars and panels that brings industry professionals together to discuss best practices and regulatory compliance, as well as shed light on the future of the food packaging-processing industry.
There are a total of eight conference tracks, including one on Food Safety and Product Security, which has become a hot topic of late thanks to recent updates to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Conference attendees can collaborate on specific challenges related to food safety at the Food Safety Summit Resource Center, which will also feature daily presentations from subject-matter experts on important food safety topics such as food packaging, HACCP, economic fraud, safety and regulations for allergens, pest control, sanitation, and traceability.
One of the featured speakers is Burns & McDonnell’s R.J. Hope, department manager for Global Security Services. In his presentation, “Food Defense Coexisting with Food Safety,” R.J. will discuss the significance of incorporating food defense and security measures with food safety — an important component of implementing and staying in compliance with the FSMA requirements. Check it out at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, and stick around afterward to discuss your specific questions with R.J.
Our Food & Consumer Products team has been attending PACK EXPO for the past decade. “It’s been an excellent opportunity for us to stay on top of trends and innovations in packaging and process technology, but it’s also a great way to highlight the unique services and capabilities we possess for working in food and consumer products manufacturing,” says Lisa Diven, business development manager of our Food & Consumer Products group.
