For Burns & McDonnell, things are definitely getting bigger in Texas — especially with the launch of a water practice in our Houston office.
I’m proud to be part of this expansion, which will spread well past our Houston office to serve all of Texas, as well as Oklahoma and Louisiana.
This growth creates new jobs for water professionals in Texas, but the move is also a crucial step to highlight the importance of smart and strategic management of water resources in light of recent drought in the region.
The drought has made water supply a critical focus for us all — not just as Burns & McDonnell employee-owners, but also as concerned members of the community.
Water affects nearly every aspect of our lives, which is why it’s so important to establish strong, sustainable systems for protecting this precious resource.
Our senior vice president of the Houston office, Leslie Duke, explains it well: “Water is a powerful and precious commodity. We rely upon it every day. Establishing a water division out of our Houston office allows us to provide even more resources and efficiencies to our clients and ultimately make sure quality water is never a concern for residents, businesses and municipalities in our communities.”
Throughout my 30-year career, I’ve seen the issues we face in industrial and municipal water fields throughout the state. That’s why I am so excited about addressing these challenges as the manager of this regional water practice — because I know we can make a huge impact.
As the firm’s largest regional office, Houston has huge potential for success in the water industry, and personally, I can’t wait to start building a specialized team in this respected firm, known for bringing innovative solutions to transform problems into opportunities for clients and communities.
Kathy Berek heads up Burns & McDonnell's new Houston Water Practice. She has more than 30 years of experience in the industrial and municipal water industry, orchestrating public works projects with a strong focus on cost-effective, high-quality and safe completion.
