Protecting the environment and giving back to the community

Big Canyon is an Honor Award winner in the 2018 American Council of Engineering Companies’ Engineering Excellence Awards.

High concentrations of selenium had made Big Canyon Creek, part of a watershed that drains into California’s Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve, an environmental risk — but options for remediation were few and far between. Beyond the high cost, available solutions would not address other issues caused by stormwater runoff. With the help of a local grant program, our team provided a comprehensive solution that gave the City of Newport Beach a treatment train that would treat both wet weather runoff and reduce selenium flows during dry weather.
