Setting Up Communities for Economic Rebound

Written by The Burns & McDonnell Team | April 14, 2020

In the wake of the brave new COVID-19 world we find ourselves in, planning for the future is more difficult than ever. No one knows with certainty what the new normal will look like post-pandemic.

The future may be foggy, but right now adaptable, long-term plans are increasingly imperative at the state and local levels. Businesses and firms have a civic responsibility to support their local communities by finishing existing critical projects, beginning new essential projects and stimulating the economy through spending.

The safe and reliable infrastructure of roads, bridges, communication networks, water and wastewater systems, and the very groundwork of the local government is especially important during these times of crisis.

Continuing projects in these areas will promote and secure civil safety as the public utilizes critical infrastructure. The completion of the projects will activate local economy. By spending on both new and ongoing projects, the local economy is stimulated, and employees who have struggled since the outbreak of COVID-19 have more opportunity to find work.

As those jobs do emerge, seeking new and innovative ways to maintain the safety and health of employees in the new norm will be imperative. We understand both the fundamental need to protect the well-being of our people and the need to keep projects moving.

Those who meet critical infrastructure needs for communities have an essential role to play in today's reality: keeping projects moving forward and bringing robust solutions to overcome the unique challenges of this pandemic and its aftermath. By contributing to the local economy and infrastructure, suppliers, consultants and vendors are supported.

As citizens and service providers, we're here to help provide the answers needed at a time like this. And, as always, we’re committed to delivering what is needed for our clients’ success.

With new funding opportunities available through the new infrastructure law, now is the perfect time for municipalities to address capital improvement plans and prioritize infrastructure improvements.
